About Fran Roberts Psychotherapy

Hi, I’m Fran, an Integrative psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience helping people navigate the messy, beautiful, overwhelming business of being human.

I specialise in working with anxiety and self-care — particularly for people who look like they’re “holding it all together” on the outside but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or constantly on edge underneath.

You might be feeling hijacked by racing thoughts, burnout, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or a deep sense of never quite being “enough.” You might be exhausted by trying to think your way out of anxiety, only to find the same loops playing over and over. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and you’re not broken.

My approach combines down-to-earth psychological tools with deep compassion. I’ll help you understand what’s happening in your mind and body, gently unwind old patterns, and build a relationship with yourself that’s rooted in kindness rather than criticism.

How I work I offer a thoughtful blend of traditional talking therapy with a body-based understanding of stress and anxiety. My sessions are grounded in mindfulness, self-compassion, and a growing body of neuroscience that shows we can reshape even the most stuck patterns over time.

I’m also the creator of a model I call the Xbox Theory of Anxiety — a playful but powerful way of understanding why anxiety feels so real (even when it’s not), and how to stop getting pulled into its games. It’s become a central part of my workshops and 1:1 work, and I’m currently writing a book based on the model.

New: Workshops and group work
Alongside individual therapy, I’ve started running workshops on anxiety, stress, and self-care. These sessions combine insight with humour and practical strategies — and are designed to help people of all ages build a healthier, more compassionate relationship with their nervous system.

If you’re interested in future workshop dates or bringing a talk to your school, organisation, or community, feel free to get in touch.

What to expect in your first session Your first session is the assessment where we get to know each other a bit better. It is really important that you like the counsellor you work with so in the assessment I encourage you to ask me about anything you feel is important in making this decision. It is also where you can tell me more about yourselves and why you want to come into counselling. We then work out a possible plan before you make your choice.

Online Therapy There are a few things to consider when deciding to see a therapist online. Do you have somewhere private and quiet you can meet. Do you have access to a stable camera and somewhere comfortable to sit. If so, then I believe online counselling can be as effective as face to face. It also means I can offer more flexibility in when we can meet and it allows you to slot your sessions in to your own schedule more efficiently. And in these uncertain times knowing you have a safe space on a weekly or bi-monthly basis that won’t be impacted by restrictions can be extremely comforting.

My training, work experience and any achievement

Training
- BSc (Hons) Psychology
- Certificate in Counselling & Counselling Skills
- Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- I am a registered member of the BACP
- I abide by the BACP Code of Ethics

I have always been interested in how and why we all handle situations differently. After completing my first degree in psychology, I decided to get some life experience before embarking on a career in counselling. I worked in fundraising and PR for a variety of charities until the desire to work one-to-one became too great and led me back to university to study Counselling and Counselling skills and then a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Whilst waiting to start the latter I trained and qualified as a well-being facilitator and ran workshops in London and the South East for groups, including local job centres and women’s groups. The workshops were based around helping people develop self-esteem and build confidence.
